About the Position

New Garden Township, Chester County, PA, is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant & Budget Specialist with a strong background in fund accounting. Under supervision of the Director of Finance, the ideal candidate will be responsible for performing reconciliations to the general ledger, managing the township budget, analyzing financial data, ensuring the efficient allocation of public resources, and other duties as assigned. This role will benefit from a strong understanding of government regulations, financial management, and the ability to collaborate with various departments to achieve fiscal responsibility.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform fund accounting tasks, including but not limited to tracking and reconciling funds across multiple accounts, journal entries and general ledger management.
  • Assist in the development, monitor, and manage the Township budget, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, identifying trends and providing actionable insights.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements (e.g., GAAP/IFRS/GASB).
  • Collaborate with department heads to review budget proposals and funding requests.
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and prepare audit documentation.
  • Provide recommendations for improving financial efficiency and resource allocation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CFA certification is a plus).
  • Proven experience in fund accounting and budget analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles, accounting software (Caselle knowledge is a plus) and financial management systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with governmental or municipal fund accounting practices.
  • Experience with Capital budgeting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

Schedule:
