POSITION Senior Accounting Specialist
DEPARTMENT Finance
REPORTS TO Finance Director
FLSA STATUS Non-Exempt, Full-time
PAY RATE $25.74 - $31.90, depending on experience
SCHEDULE Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for providing accounting assistance to the Director of Finance and Assistant Finance Director. Assignments are performed within established guidelines, policies and/or procedures.
The Senior Accounting Specialist provides exceptional customer service and is expected to uphold the public interest and advance the vision set forth by the Borough and community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions may include the customary duties and responsibilities noted herein, however, the information below is not an exhaustive list of duties and instead serves as a representative sample of the expectations of the position.
- Provides exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Completes and maintains reconciliations for all bank and investment accounts.
- Prepares and records recurring journal entries and bank transfers.
- Provides assistance to the Director of Finance and Assistant Finance Director on various projects as assigned, including but not limited to providing assistance on the budget and yearly independent audit.
- Learns and cross trains other positions of the department, including reception, accounts payable/receivable, taxes, parking, and utility billing, to help in areas as needed, and at a level so that customer questions can be answered during periods of absence by department staff.
- Performs moderately complex arithmetic accurately and timely, including various accounting analyses and reconciliations.
- Assists in the monitoring of past due accounts and helps to prepare necessary information to communicate, collect, and/or lien properties.
- Provide assistance to the Assistant Finance Director as it pertains to non-supervisory parking operations.
- Prepares and tracks bids and prepares related communications.
- Maintains a current fixed asset listing.
- Proofs accounting reports for clerical accuracy.
- Performs related work, assists other departments, and performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to perform multiple tasks with various interruptions is required.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and carefully.
- Ability to learn and use Borough software Accela/Springbrook and Microsoft Office products including Word, and Excel.
- Ability to engage authentically with a wide range of stakeholders and various racial, ethnic and socioeconomic communities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFYING CRITERIA: An equivalent combination of credentials and experience to sufficiently perform the duties of the position may be considered:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- 5 years related accounting work of a similar level.
- A valid PA driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands described below are representative of those required for the position.
- Work is performed indoors in an office environment.
- Walking, standing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting less than 10 pounds.
- Use hands to handle, grasp, and write.
- See and communicate effectively.
- Must be able to use body to work, move or carry objects or materials.
